Chiromancy or palmistry: its origin is unclear, but we know it’s been practised throughout Eurasia: China, Europe, India, Persia, and Mesopotamia. Lines and other marks on the palm and fingers determine a person’s character and frequently their fate and future. Chiromancy is the art of reading these signs by looking closely at the different lines on your palm to make predictions about your career, love life, and happiness.
Divination has been defined as a way of dealing with social or cognitive uncertainty. Since the early days of history, human relationship with the future has been largely governed by anxiety facing the unknown. My interest here is focused on divination as an expression of the desire for predictability and control of the future.
